Juried Student Exhibition Winners Announced
Work by Fairmont State University art students is honored for excellence at the annual
Juried Exhibition, which opened Wednesday, April 18, with a reception in the Tower
Room of Wallman Hall. The exhibition is on display through April 28.
Best in Show was awarded to Lauren Adams (Fairmont) for her series of figural drawings.
Jessica Bright (Huntington) received first place for work in photography and ceramics.
Robert Cutright (Weston) earned second place for glass-making and ceramics, followed
by Andre Cinalli (Fairmont), third place, and Micah Zbach (Fairmont), honorable mention.
The President's Choice Ward was presented to Andre Cinalli for her pottery and Dean's
Awards were presented to Andre Cinalli and Lauren Adams.
The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Timothy John Clayton, a Fairmont State
art major from Burlington who died in 2005. Several of his works are on display. The
Clayton Memorial Prize was presented to Robert Cutright for work judged to be in the
spirit of Clayton's vision as an artist. Morgantown artist Penelyn Peterson produced
an original print as the award. This will be given annually.
This year's juror is Joseph Valencic, a Cleveland-based artist, writer and filmmaker
whose work has received honors in the United States and Europe. The exhibition is
sponsored by Kappa Pi, International Art Honorary Fraternity, and the Fairmont State
Art Department.
Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Special viewing arrangements
can be made through Curator Marian J. Hollinger, (304) 367-4300; e-mail: mhollinger@fairmontstate.edu.
