Stage Band Concert Set for April 19

Mar 28, 2006

The Fairmont State Stage Band, under the direction of Dr. Valarie Huffman, will present its spring concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the Turley Center Ballroom.

The concert will feature the vocal stylings of three guest soloists. Leigh Anne Bolyard, a senior music major at FSU, will be singing Johnny Mercer's "I Remember You" from the motion picture "The Fleet's In," as well as the Bette Midler picture "For the Boys." Kaela Kuhn, a junior music major originally from Hundred, W.Va., will be singing the Billy Joel ballad "Just the Way You Are." FSU Adjunct Professor of Musical Theatre Stephanie Adlington will sing "Orange Colored Sky," which was made popular during the 1990s with Natalie Cole and her "Unforgettable" album.

The concert will also showcase three theme songs from popular television shows. The 1970s will be highlighted by the "Odd Couple," the 1980s with "Johnny's Theme" from the "Tonight Show" and more recent times with the new arrangement of the theme from the animated television show "The Family Guy."

Other selections will include a progressive futuristic jazz piece entitled "Chronometry," the Latin fiery "Manteca," the Artie Shaw signature tune "Let's Dance," featuring FSU senior clarinetist Tiffany Brown, as well as other selections.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Huffman at (304) 367-4206 or vhuffman@fairmontstate.edu.
