Three Debaters Place in Top Five in Tourney
The Fairmont State Debate Team recently attended the Bridgewater College Study Break
Tournament in Harrisonburg, Va. Three FS students placed in the top five.
Chris Sharps placed first in debate and second in impromptu speaking. Terry Meeks
placed fourth, and Shawn Wiley placed fifth.
The team debated the 2005-National Forensic Association Lincoln Douglas debate resolution:
"Resolved that the United States Federal Government should adopt a policy to increase
the protection of human rights in one or more of the following nations: Tibet, Bhutan,
Afghanistan, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, East Timor, Indonesia, Philippines and /or
Pakistan."
Other schools attending the tournament were Lock Haven University, Southern Virginia,
Carson-Newman College, James Madison University, Randolph-Macon College, Shepherd
University, Methodist College, Alderson-Broaddus and Lord Fairfax Community College.
