Martha Amos Named Classified Employee of the Year

Martha Amos, Administrative Secretary Senior for the Office of Economic Development and the Center for Workforce Education, has been named Classified Employee of the Year for Fairmont State.

Amos was honored with the award during the annual Classified Staff Luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the Turley Center Ballroom.

"Thank you all very much," Amos said. "I do enjoy working at Fairmont State. You all are a great bunch of people."

Other nominees for the award were Debra Bates, Neda Glover, Sandra Petry, Debby Rogers, Kenny Satterfield, Annette Schorr and Ester Szczyt.

"You all are really the central nervous system of Fairmont State Community & Technical college and Fairmont State University and the energy source and the muscle to make things happen," said Blair Montgomery, FSC&TC President. "Your work is so important to everything that we do."

FSU President Daniel J. Bradley also recognized the classified staff for their efforts.

"Fairmont State would not be what it is without all the hard work that you do," Bradley said. "Blair and I know how hard everyone works and we celebrate your efforts."

Martha "Honey" Amos has been a Fairmont State employee for about 10 years. Her FS career began when she was hired for two weeks in August 1995 by the Business Office to help do registration. Within the first week, she was asked if she would be interested in secretarial work for the School of Business and Economics. She was hired as a part-time employee with the School of Business and Economics and later served as Administrative Secretary Senior for the Small Business Development Center.

"She is a loyal and dedicated employee who wants to make Fairmont State the best Higher Education Institute in the state," Stephanie White read aloud about Amos at the luncheon. "She finds her work to be rewarding and challenging, and she greatly values the many great friendships that she has formed while working here."

As part of her award, Amos received the following gifts: a $20 gift certificate to the FS Bookstore from Barnes & Noble; two season basketball passes and reserved parking from Athletics; a one-year pass to the Falcon Center from Robin Yeager; a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card from the National Aerospace Education Center; five color copies and a mousepad from Xerox; a wall plaque from Human Resources; a desk name plate from the Physical Plant; flowers from Student Government; lapel pins from Sarah Hensley; personalized note pads from the Office of Web and Graphic Communications; an FS shirt from Alumni Affairs; season Masquers and orchestra tickets from the School of Fine Arts; a family portrait from John Piscitelli; a one year parking pass from the Business Office; one week of lunch at the Nickel from Aladdin; an FS backpack and personal planner from the School of Education; a gift certificate to Cracker Barrel from the Office of Workforce Development; a picture frame from the Office of Economic Development; $500 from the Office of Institutional Advancement; a gift certificate to Rider Pharmacy from FSC&TC.

Also during the luncheon, the Office of Human Resources honored employees for their years of service to Fairmont State. Honored for five years of service were Frank Sermo, Alexander Eggett, Deborah Floyd, Cheri Gallo, Juddy McMasters, Rebecca Miller, Dennis Mitchell, Kevin Nichols and Saundra Ross. Honored for 10 years of service were Shelby McIntire, Trucilla Harton, William Bradley, David Cross, Matthew Jacques, Robert Kisner, Roy Lewis, John Mainella, Jacqueline Moore, Dale Rice, Annette Schorr and Janice Watts. Honored for 15 years of service were Anna Romano, Virginia Caldwell, Shirley Collins, David Fimple, John Piscitelli, Priscilla Steed and Carolyn Straight. Honored for 20 years of service were Harriett Snyder and Ester Szczyt. Honored for 25 years of service were Debra Bates and Thomas Fast. Honored for 30 years of service were Jane Delbrook and Debby Rogers.
