Training for High-Tech Corridor Offered

Nov 02, 2005

The Center for Workforce Education of Fairmont State Community & Technical College has announced a partnership with New Horizons Computer Learning Centers to bring computer application and technical training to individuals and businesses in the North Central West Virginia.

"A significant part of the economic revitalization of the Fairmont region is being driven by businesses in the information technology sector," said Paul Schreffler, Director of Economic Development & Workforce Education for Fairmont State. "In addition, companies in any business sector are continually being challenged to utilize current computer applications and technology to streamline their processes. We want to help develop and support these companies as they grow.

"An important part of any company's growth potential is being able to attract and retain qualified employees. Information technology firms often require employees to maintain industry certifications, which involves a commitment to ongoing education just to keep current in this field. Even companies outside the IT arena struggle with learning the tools provided in new computer applications."

Since 1982, New Horizons Computer Learning Centers has grown to become the largest independent IT training company worldwide. New Horizons at Fairmont State now offers classroom, online e-learning and mentored training options for virtually every desktop application used in the world of business.

"We feature the latest titles and provide solutions tailored to help you execute real-world business projects," said Ollin Landers, Chief Technology Officer for New Horizons at Fairmont State. "We offer classes in various formats, so that you have access to training that fits your schedule."

Clients can choose from a wide selection of technical classes and certification packages such as Microsoft, Cisco, Citrix, Novell and others. New Horizons maintains the world's largest network of Microsoft Certified Partners for Learning Solutions.

New Horizons, worldwide, offers more courses, at more times, in more locations than any other company in the computer training industry. For a free class to evaluate the quality of the training, call Ollin at (304) 333-6030, Ext. 11.

"The success of our customers is realized through training classes, but the foundation of New Horizons is based on inspiring students and companies to become more productive and successful in their daily activities. We see it on our students' faces every day. It's the confidence that comes from learning," said Roy Lee Cooke, a partner in the New Horizons organization here and of the one of the original West Virginia "Rocket Boys" featured in the movie October Sky.

"I am very excited about the partnership arrangement we have created with Fairmont State. We look forward to working together to provide the very latest in technology training in West Virginia."
