FS Construction Projects Receive Honors
Two Fairmont State construction projects brought top honors to two local contractors
during the 2005 Excellence in Construction Awards presented by the West Virginia chapter
of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc.
March-Westin Co. of Morgantown was recognized with an Excellence in Construction
Award for its work on the Falcon Center, Fairmont State's new student center. The
project was designed by VOA Associates of Chicago.
Laurita Excavating of Morgantown also won an Excellence in Construction award for
its work on the East and West Campus Drive improvements. The project was designed
by Thrasher Engineering of Clarksburg.
"It's very gratifying,"Tom Laurita, president of Laurita, said of winning the award.
"It was a very challenging project."
Laurita said he is particularly proud of his company because during the course of
the two-year project, which involved 54,000 man hours, a sprained ankle was the only
injury sustained by a Laurita worker.
