Fall Fest to Feature Country Music, Food
Student Government is sponsoring Fall Fest 2005, which is planned for 7 p.m. Tuesday,
Nov. 1, in the Falcon Center Gym 1. Admission to the event is free.
In response to requests on campus for country music at events, two country music
acts will perform at Fall Fest. Morgantown country/honky-tonk duo, The Weedhawks,
will open the event with a few original songs, mixed in with some country cover tunes.
The Weedhawks are Bobby Lane on guitar, harmonica and vocals, with the singing and
fiddling of Ruby Hornsby. They sing in the traditional folk style into one central
microphone. The stage then gets turned over to Joe Hall and High Country, another
regional band made up of some Fairmont State students in a seven-piece country band,
complete with mandolin and steel guitar. Their repertoire includes some country standards,
along with some new cover songs.
"In the spring every year, we send out a survey to all the clubs on campus, asking
them what kind of events, entertainment and music they would like to have," said Student
Activities Director Laurie Johnston. "We got a strong response last spring to book
some country music. We hope students realize that we really do try to plan the types
of events they indicate they would like. We also hope students, faculty and staff
alike will join us in a night of good music and dancing, great food and a chance to
visit with your friends on campus."
Chili, corn bread, pumpkin treats and cider will be served.
