All-Day Reading of 'Frankenstein' Planned
Fairmont State University's School of Language & Literature will host an all-day reading
of "Frankenstein" for the Fairmont community from 8 a.m. to about 6 p.m. Monday, Oct.
31, on the third floor of the Ruth Ann Musick Library.
"Frankenstein," Mary Shelley's classic tale of the scientist who succeeds in his
ambition to create life but then fails to nurture and educate his child, thus creating
a monster who wreaks havoc on all that he loves, is a story that will appeal that
will appeal to people of all ages and academic interests.
Fairmont State students, faculty and staff, as well as other interested members of
the community can stop by to read aloud or to listen. Copies of the novel will be
available to borrow, and handouts with a chapter-by chapter synopsis will be available
to enable anyone dropping by in the middle of the day to follow along with the story.
There will also be short breaks to allow participants to discuss the universal and
timeless issues raised in the novel.
"Costumes are optional, but there should be plenty of Halloween treats to make it
a truly festive and seasonal occasion," said Deborah Nestor, Associate Professor of
English.
