Entries Accepted for Homecoming Parade

Fairmont State's traditional Homecoming Parade will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in downtown Fairmont.

Any marching group, organization, community group or business interested in having a float in the parade should call the Office of Student Activities, at (304) 367-4705 by Thursday, Oct. 6. Line-up for the parade will begin at 5:15 p.m. at the corner of Fairmont Avenue and Second Street.

Student Government has selected Holly Palmer, who has been named Miss Deaf West Virginia 2005-2007 by the West Virginia Association of the Deaf, as parade marshal.

A native of Wheeling, W.Va., and a life-long resident of Marshall County, Palmer started receiving services from the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center in Wheeling at an early age. She attended Center McMechen Elementary School and Union Junior High School and graduated from John Marshall High School in Glen Dale, W.Va., in 1999.

Currently a student at Fairmont State University, she is majoring in elementary education and sociology. Palmer is a member of Delta Xi Omicron sorority, a community service organization, for which she held the office of treasurer for two years. She has also served as an assistant coordinator for Relay for Life and a member of the Homecoming court. After her graduation from FSU, she plans to pursue a master's degree in deaf education.

Palmer is the daughter of Thomas and Carolyn Palmer of Glen Easton, W.Va. She has two sisters, Lisa Haney of Fairmont and Heather Palmer of Moundsville, W.Va.

The annual Pep Rally will immediately follow the parade at Duvall-Rosier Field. Clubs on campus will compete for the Spirit Stick, as cheerleaders and Marching Band lead the crowd in cheering on the Fighting Falcons. Homecoming court candidates, the football coaches and captains will also be introduced.

The Fighting Falcons take on the University of Charleston for the Homecoming football game at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Duvall-Rosier Field.
