America/FS Reads Begins Oct. 4

Sep 26, 2005

The America /Fairmont State Reads program is preparing for the presentation of its reading enrichment program.

This fall, because of construction on Fairmont State’s campus, the sessions will be held at Faith United Methodist Church on the corner of Fairmont Avenue and Fourth Street. The sessions will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 4, and will continue each Tuesday afternoon through Nov. 15 from 4 to 5 p.m.

Fairmont State students, who have just completed an intense workshop/training period, are working diligently to make this a totally successful reading experience for students in kindergarten through fourth grade.

During the sessions, the elementary students will hear stories, play vocabulary games and complete writing/art projects. The program is presented to enhance a child’s love of reading. Although it is not a tutoring session, emphasis is placed on good reading practices. A major goal of America/FS Reads is to assist children in developing self-esteem and embracing diversity.
