Employer Outreach Seminar Set for May 26
The Center for Workforce Education at Fairmont State is supporting the region's upcoming
Employer Information Exchange Sessions on the West Virginia Unemployment Compensation
process and system from an employer's perspective.
A seminar titled "Unemployment: What Every Employer Needs to Know" will be offered
in Taylor County for employers in Marion and Taylor counties. The session will be
Thursday, May 26, in the Meeting Room of the Taylor County Senior Citizen Center.
The session will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The cost for the session is
$25.
This event is being planned in partnership by The Region VI Business Center, the
Fairmont WORKFORCE West Virginia Center, the local Chamber of Commerce and the Taylor
County Economic Development Authority.
The May 26 session will focus on the unemployment process and issues from the employer's
liability perspective. Marcella Townsend, Chief Administrative Law Judge from the
Board of Review Office, and Lou Taylor, Manager, Fairmont Unemployment Compensation
Office, will be leading the information exchange session.
"All employers need to be aware of the documentation and appeal process, not to mention
how the system functions," said Penny Weidner, Coordinator for The Region VI Business
Center. "This workshop will help companies understand how to be prepared and manage
an appeal process. The employers will also gain direct access to a regional support
system that focuses on company-based needs."
The Region VI Business Center is the Workforce Investment Board's employer component
for the 13-county region.

is encouraged to ensure space at either of the sessions.
