FSUCO Presents Concert April 17

The Fairmont State University Community Orchestra, under the direction of John Ashton, will present a free concert in Colebank Hall on the FS campus at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 17.

Two soloists, winners of the orchestra's annual concerto competition, will be featured. Flutist Amy Reed will play the brilliant "Fantaisie Pastorale Hongroise" by Francois Doppler and soprano Marcia Knoll will sing arias by Mozart and Puccini. The orchestra will also play Ludwig van Beethoven's "Egmont" Overture and the Symphony No. 4 in c minor (the "Tragic") of Franz Schubert.

Amy N. Reed is a senior music education major at FS, where she is involved with the marching band, wind ensemble, the Fairmont State University Community Orchestra, Collegiate Singers and Women's Ensemble. Reed has served as the principal flutist with the FS Wind Ensemble for four years as well as the Parkersburg High School Concert Band. She has performed in productions of "Annie" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," as well as solo recitals in the Parkersburg/Marietta area.

She currently studies flute at Fairmont State with Dorothy Skidmore and also studies with Melissa Bias-Herceg in Parkersburg, W.Va. Reed is an active member of the Kappa Psi Band Honorary Fraternity, where she served as treasurer for two years, and she is also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, International Honorary Music Fraternity. For two years, Reed has served as chapter president.

Reed is a native of Parkersburg and is the daughter of Duane and Cindy Deem and Randy Reed. She plans to graduate in May with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and wishes to continue her education with a master's degree in flute performance. This is her second year as concerto soloist with the Fairmont State University Community Orchestra.

Marcia L. Knoll is a senior music education and elementary education double major at FS. She has performed for four years with the Collegiate Singers, Chamber Choir and Women's Ensemble. She is a WVCMEA and an FS honors recitalist and has performed twice with the WVACDA Collegiate Honor Choir.

Knoll currently studies voice at FS with Dr. Jeffrey Poland and previously studied with Janet Gilmer. She is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association, serving as student chapter president for the last two years, and she is also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, for which she has served as chapter treasurer for the past two years.

A native of Fairmont, Knoll is the daughter of Gary and Janet Knoll. She plans to graduate in May 2006 with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Elementary Education.
