Dance to Raise Money for Tsunami Relief
Fairmont State's Student Government, the International Education Committee and the
Fairmont State Foundation, Inc., are sponsoring a Tsunami Relief Fundraiser Cajun
Dance on Thursday, Feb. 10.
"Student Government was already planning a dance with a Cajun theme because it would
take place two days after Mardi Gras," said Laurie Johnston, Director of Student Activities.
"The students decided to also make the dance a fund-raiser to aid the victims of the
terrible tsunami disaster."
The event is planned for 8 p.m. in the Turley Center Ballroom at Fairmont State.
Live Cajun music will be provided by Tracy Schwarz and his band. Free dance instruction,
Cajun food and a costume contest also will be offered. Beer and wine will be available
to those who have proper ID.
Admission will be by donation. The suggested donation for students is $5, for seniors
is $10 and for community members is $15. All donations will benefit the American Red
Cross Tsunami Relief Fund.
"We would like to see the entire campus and community come out to support this fund-raiser,"
Johnston said. "It is a great opportunity to give to those in dire need at this time
while enjoying some hot Cajun music. We will have dance instruction before the band
kicks off. We encourage everyone to join us as we raise money to support the victims
of the tsunami."
