Self-Confrontation' Features Student Art

Jan 10, 2005

Students in the art gallery course in the Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts, under the direction of Marian J. Hollinger, Curator of the Brooks Gallery, are planning a student show titled "Self-Confrontation," an exhibition of self-portraiture.

Students participating in the class are Lauren Adams, Kevin Smith, Anna Sherer, Jessica Allen, Timothy Clayton, Micah Zbach and Christina VanDeysen.

"Most students of the visual arts are called upon to depict themselves, in whatever their medium," Hollinger said. "Although this may sound easy -- after all, the image is right there, in the mirror or the camera lens -- self-portraiture may be the most difficult project for any artists, whether student or professional. Tackling this topic for an exhibition has challenged the students who have entered their work, and has also piqued the interest of students from other schools, notably West Virginia University."

The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, runs from Jan. 20-28 in the Brooks Gallery on the fourth floor of Wallman Hall on the main FS campus. Regular gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. For more information, call Hollinger at (304) 367-4300.
