Ernest Green Lecture Canceled
Ernest Green, one of the first African-American students to integrate Central High
School in Little Rock, Ark., was scheduled to speak on campus Wednesday, Feb. 2, as
part of the Fairmont State Celebration of Culture and Ideas Lecture Series. Due to
scheduling conflicts, his lecture has been canceled.
Green and eight classmates, known as the "Little Rock Nine," integrated Central High
School in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Brown v. Board of Education.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of that decision that struck down school segregation.
Fairmont State's Celebration of Culture and Ideas Lecture Series brings nationally
prominent speakers of diverse viewpoints to campus each fall and spring. This year's
lineup also includes Jen Chapin (March 1) and Cornel West (March 31).
