Connect to Wi-Fi

Connecting to FalconNet Wi-Fi

The FalconNET Wi-Fi Network is available campus-wide for Students, Staff, and Faculty. 

Apple and Windows Devices:

  1. Choose FalconNET from your device’s wireless options.
  2. Enter your Fairmont State University Email address and password to connect.
    • Students enter username@students.fairmontstate.edu and password.
    • Staff enter username@fairmontstate.edu and password.

Android and ChromeOS Devices: 

  1. Choose FalconNET from your device’s wireless options.
  2. Enter your Fairmont State University Email address and password to connect.
    • Students enter username@students.fairmontstate.edu and password.
    • Staff enter username@fairmontstate.edu and password.
  3. Under Advanced settings enter:
    • EAP Method: PEAP
    • Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2
    • Certificate: select "Do not check" or "Don't validate"
  • Note: Some Android devices may require the following options:
    • CA certificate: Trust on First Use         
             or
    • CA certificate: Use system certificate
    • Online Certificate Status: Request certificate status
    • Domain: network.fairmontstate.edu

Connecting to Residence Hall Network

Student Housing offers students a personalized private wireless network, which enables the use of Gaming Consoles, Streaming Devices, and most other smart devices in the Residence Halls.

Step 1: Onboarding Devices to Res_Hall:

  1. Connect to the “Student_Onboarding” wireless network.
  2. Log in with your Fairmont State University email and password at the portal.
    • Example: students\jdoe
  3. A Pre-shared Key (password) for Res_Hall will be assigned.
    • Note: Write down or take note of your pre-shared key.

Step 2: Logging into Res_Hall using your pre-shared key:

  1. Close this wireless connection
  2. Connect to the “Res_Hall” wireless network.
  3. Enter the pre-shared key (password) from step 2.  A username is not required.
    • Note: Forget the “Student_Onboarding” network to keep from connecting to it in the future.
  4. Repeat these steps for all devices you desire to connect.

Connecting Gaming Systems to Res_Hall with Ethernet cable (Preferred):

  1. Follow the steps listed in "Connecting to Residence Hall Network" above.
  2. Ensure the gaming system is plugged into the networking port, and leave it plugged in until a connection is successful. 

Connecting to Guest Network

The Guest Network provides basic internet access for university guests.

  1. Choose Guest from your device’s wireless options.
  2. Open a new browser window (Safari, Chrome, Edge, or Firefox) and follow the prompts to finish the connection.
