Free Body Fat Testing

Are you working towards a fitness goal but aren’t sure if you are making healthy progress? Then this fitness clinic is for you! The Falcon Center is offering 2 FREE body fat testing Sessions per semester. Body fat composition is evaluated using the handheld bioelectrical impedance analyzer which is noninvasive and only takes a few minutes. Hydration level and blood circulation affect body fat reading. For the most accurate results it is recommended to avoid measurement under the following conditions:

  • Immediately after vigorous exercise
  • Immediately after a bath or sauna
  • After drinking a large amount of water or after a meal (1 to 2 hours)

Contact Alyssa Diacono to schedule your FREE body fat testing at Alyssa.Diacono@fairmontstate.edu.

Body Composition

Body composition refers to the types and amounts of tissues that make up the body. The most widely accepted body composition analysis is a two-part scale that divides the body weight into fat weight and lean weight.

Fat weight or adipose tissue is considered essential for normal functioning and is stored in the body to protect, insulate, and be used for energy.

Lean Body Mass is comprised of 40-50% muscle, 16-18% bone, and 26%-35% organ mass (liver, kidneys, heart, etc.).

Recommended Body Fat Percentages:

Age Males Females
18 - 29 Years 7 - 17% 16 - 24%
30 - 39 Years 12 - 21% 17 - 25%
40 - 49 Years 14 - 23% 19 - 28%
50 - 59 Years 16 - 24% 22 - 31%
60 + Years 17 - 25% 22 - 33%

Health Risks Associated with Excess Body Fat include Heart Disease, Hypertension, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Diabetes, and Joint Discomfort.
