Requirements to Apply

  • GPA of 2.5 or above (if GPA falls below 2.5, you will be placed on probation and required to work with tutoring services)
  • Be a full-time undergraduate or graduate Fairmont State student.
  • Must be physically capable of supporting the costume and performing effectively.
  • Must have the ability to perform strenuous athletic movements while in costume.
  • Must have no health or physical issues which would hamper your ability to perform as the Falcon or which might cause performing as the Falcon to be unsafe for your health.
  • Must have personal medical insurance and complete a Medical Release Form. The Department of Intramurals, nor Fairmont State University, provides medical insurance coverage for the Falcon.
  • The Falcon requires a significant amount of physical activity. Prior to beginning your duties, you will be required to obtain a general physical examination to ensure you are physically capable of safely performing all of the Falcon duties and must provide verification of medical clearance from a physician

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Falcon will conduct himself/herself in a suitable manner required of a representative of Fairmont State University.
  • The Falcon is prohibited from using any illegal drugs or other controlled substances at any time during your tenure as the Falcon. You are not permitted to consume alcohol or tobacco products prior to or while in uniform, regardless of age.
  • The Falcon is NOT ALLOWED to accept money or gifts for appearances.
  • The Falcon must demonstrate school spirit at all times.
  • The Falcon must provide crowd participation/interaction and assistance for all in-game promotions. This may include posing for game day or special event pictures/videos.
  • The Falcon must have schedule flexibility. An institutional excuse will be provided for any event that conflicts with your current semester schedule.
  • The Falcon will be required to attend:
    • Fairmont State University Home Athletic Events
    • Foundation / Alumni Events
    • Student Activities Events on campus lasting no more than 1-2 hours
    • Limited Community Engagements
    • Other events deemed necessary by the Department or Office of the President
  • The Falcon is not, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, allowed to participate in an endorsement of any corporation or commercial product for profit. The Falcon can ONLY take part in media campaigns approved by Fairmont State University Relations.
  • Further duties and responsibilities may be added as needed.

Stipend

The Falcon Mascot will receive a stipend up to $3,757.00 per semester (which covers most in-state tuition costs).
