Licensure Disclosures

Does This Program Meet Requirements for Licensure in My State?

Fairmont State University is approved to participate in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). NC-SARA authorizes Fairmont State to offer distance education in participating states. NC-SARA does not determine whether an academic program meets professional licensure or certification requirements in another state.

Some Fairmont State University programs are designed to prepare students for professional licensure, certification, endorsement, or other regulated professional practice. Licensure requirements vary by state and may include education, examinations, background checks, fingerprinting, professional experience, applications, fees, continuing education, residency, citizenship, or other requirements established by the applicable licensing agency.

The disclosures below identify whether Fairmont State University has determined that completion of the listed program meets the educational requirements for professional licensure or certification in each state or jurisdiction. These disclosures do not guarantee licensure, certification, employment, or approval by a licensing agency.

Students who live outside West Virginia, plan to relocate during their program, or intend to seek licensure outside West Virginia should review the information below and contact the appropriate state licensing agency before enrolling. Students should also contact their academic program office at Fairmont State if they have questions about how a program aligns with licensure requirements in a specific state.

Important Notices for Students

  • State licensure requirements may change at any time. A program that currently meets educational requirements in a state may be affected by future changes in state law, board rules, agency policy, or Fairmont State curriculum.
  • Relocating during a program may affect licensure eligibility, student teaching or clinical placement, financial aid eligibility, and whether Fairmont State can continue to enroll a student in a licensure program. Students should contact their academic program before relocating to another state or territory.
  • Students located outside the United States are responsible for determining whether a Fairmont State program meets professional licensure, certification, or employment requirements in the country where they intend to practice.

State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements

This page is updated at least annually (in June) or when necessary in order to comply with legal requirements.

Students in other countries should note that it is the student’s responsibility to determine whether or not completion of their program of choice at Fairmont State University will fulfill any educational requirements for professional licensure in their country. Students should also note that additional requirements for licensure, other than education, may apply. Students should contact the appropriate licensing agency/board within their country for information to assist in making such a determination.
