Dr. J. Robert Baker served as the Director of the Honors Program at Fairmont State University for twenty years. During that time, Dr. Baker established a strong foundation for Honors students to thrive in myriad ways. Due to his guidance, hundreds of Honors students have completed their degrees with academic distinction, conducted innovative research studies, presented their scholarship at a wide range of academic venues, participated in professional internships, and forged a lasting sense of community. In addition, as a result of Dr. Baker’s dedication to creating opportunities for Honors students to become engaged citizens of the world, many Honors students during the past two decades have traveled far and wide, whether through a quick jaunt to Washington D.C. with their Honors cohort or by way of a weeklong expedition to sites around the world.
In recognition of his dedication to Honors students and his years of service to the program, the Honors Program will award an annual scholarship in his name to an Honors student who excels academically and is an active participant in the Honors program.
