LPN to ASN

Upon graduation the LPN receives the Associate of Science in Nursing Degree and is eligible to sit tor the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). 

This program is best for experienced LPNs who have online learning experience.  The nursing courses are taught asynchronously online.  All clinical experiences will be held in West Virginia.  Students must possess basic computer skills, have computer access, and a high-speed Internet connection.   Class size is limited to 32 admissions per cohort.  Cohorts are admitted in the Fall, Spring, and Summer.

Key Features of the Program 

  • Can be completed in as little as 12 months, 3 consecutive semesters or 18 months with 4 consecutive semesters. 
  • Allows students to attend school full-time while maintaining other life responsibilities. 
  • Classes are online with clinical 2-3 days per month, in the state of West Virginia. 
  • Clinicals held in the Fairmont region for the first semester. Remaining semesters will be held in West Virginia. 
  • Students admitted in a cohort fashion. 
  • Small class size. 
  • Experiences in state-of-the-art skills and simulation labs. 
  • Provides the LPN who possess a valid unencumbered LPN license to receive credit for NURS 1101 (Fundamental of Nursing). 
  • Applicants must meet the requirements for admission to the program.

LPN to ASN Model Schedule 

Transferable Credits

 The student may transfer in credits from other institutions for the below classes to accelerate their path to graduation:

  • ENGL  1101 – Written English I (3 cr) 
  • ENGL  1102 – Written English II (3 cr) 
  • PSYC  1101 – Introduction to Psychology (3 cr) 
  • NUTR  1110 – Nutrition (3 cr) 
  • BIOL  1180 & 1181 – Anatomy & Physiology (3 cr) and Lab (1 cr) 
  • The student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 
  • All courses require a minimum grade of “C.”

Transition Into the RN to BSN Program

Students who have completed their first two semesters of the ASN program and have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher and have been successful in their first attempt at all nursing courses are eligible to enroll in NURS 3320 (Health Assessment) and NURS 3360 (Nursing Ethics).  Permission to do so is required from your academic advisor and the BSN department chair. 

Students who plan to transition into the RN-BSN program must submit an application to the RN-BSN program and meet the program admission requirements.
