Weist Honored with State Award for Service
A Fairmont State Community & Technical College employee has been honored as the West
Virginia Service Providers Associate Partner of the Year.
Jennifer Weist, a Program Manager for FSC&TC since 2000, was nominated for the award
by the Region VI Workforce Investment Board for the work she does on behalf of Fairmont
State with the Fairmont WORKFORCE West Virginia Center.
The Fairmont WORKFORCE West Virginia Center serves as a broker for a variety of services
to citizens, business and industry in a user-friendly facility. Both job seekers and
employers have access to a variety of employment and training services under one roof.
The One-Stop Center is the entry point for those seeking job training and employment
in Marion and Taylor counties. The One-Stop concept allows individuals to receive
services from one agency rather than from several. In addition, the center aids employers
by enhancing the characteristics of the area's labor market and business climate.
The center is located at 107-109 Adams St. in the West Virginia State Office Complex
in Fairmont.
Weist serves as Chair of the Management Team Consortium (and has been since its creation
in 2001). She also serves on several committees for the Region VI Workforce Investment
Board and as a liaison between FSC&TC and the other WORKFORCE West Virginia Centers
in Morgantown, Clarksburg and Elkins, W.Va.
Barbara DeMary of the Region VI Workforce Investment Board nominated Weist for the
award.
"Jennifer assumed the Fairmont One-Stop Chair position in 2001. During that time,
she has led the Fairmont One-Stop in a concentrated effort to work closely with area
training providers and to promote partnerships,"DeMary wrote. "Under Jennifer's direction,
the Fairmont WORKFORCE West Virginia Center has implemented numerous innovative programs
which are unique to the center and include: monthly Event Days involving training
provider participation, daily radio ads promoting partner training providers and events
with free air time, partner recognition, yearly recruitment meetings and yearly strategic
planning sessions."
A native of Cross Lanes, W.Va., Weist and her husband Ron reside in Benton's Ferry
and have two children, Joshua, 4, and Abigail, 18 months. She received her B.A. degree
from Alderson Broaddus College, a M.S.W. from West Virginia University and is currently
working toward an M.S. from Mountain State University.
