Fairmont State University Extending Dates for On-Campus Orientation

Jul 01, 2021

Fairmont State University is extending its Welcome Wednesday on-campus orientation sessions to include four more dates throughout the summer.

“We have hosted three Welcome Wednesday events so far, and students and their parents have told us time and time again just how happy they are to be here on campus to have this experience in person,” said Chris Sharps, Fairmont State Senior Director of Recruitment.

The in-person sessions afford new students enrolled in the 2021-2022 academic year the ability to see campus, eat lunch with Freddie the Falcon, tour residence halls, obtain ID cards and meet with advisors and build fall semester schedules. Current students as well as staff are also on hand to answer questions.

“For some students and their parents, Welcome Wednesday was their very first time visiting campus. They have been so excited to meet the Dean of their college, meet with their academic advisor, and walk away with a course schedule,” said Sharps. “So much of the last year of their life as a student came with so much uncertainty. They walk away from the day knowing what they’re going to be doing from now until the end of the semester. It feels good, and they are confident and ready to begin their college experience here at Fairmont State.”

Welcome Wednesdays will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, July 7
  • Wednesday, July 14
  • Wednesday, July 21
  • Wednesday, July 28

To register, visit www.fairmontstate.edu/welcomewednesday21. Family members are also invited to attend. Students who are unable to attend the in-person sessions can complete orientation online by following the instructions at www.fairmontstate.edu/orientation

“I am so thrilled we have reopened campus, because it allows us to do what we do best,” said Mirta M. Martin, Fairmont State University President. “And that’s meeting face-to-face with students and their families, and helping them take the first, important steps toward achieving their dreams. Their educational journeys are just starting, but they will leave Welcome Wednesday knowing in their hearts that Fairmont State will be with them every step of the way, through graduation and beyond."
