Fairmont State's Academy for the Arts announces 2022 summer camp lineup

Fairmont State University’s Academy for the Arts has announced a robust lineup of summer camps for the 2022 season. The Academy for the Arts summer camps offer students opportunities to explore and build skills in the performing arts. Serving grades K-12, camps are offered in various subjects at convenient times to meet the needs of parents and children.

"We're excited to offer so many opportunities for expanding skills, exploration and fun this summer," said Director of Performing Arts, Outreach and Development, Leigh Anne Riley. "Included in our lineup are many camps for both younger children and high-school-aged students. Summer is an excellent time for young people to build skills, friendships and explore new interests through our unique camp offerings. The Academy utilizes Fairmont State facilities, and our highly qualified instructors are drawn from Fairmont State faculty, staff and area teachers. Our camps cover areas of musical theatre, acting, improv dance, singing and more."

The 2022 Academy for the Arts summer camps include:

  • Showstopper: Exploring Musical Theatre Dance – June 27 – 30, grades K – 3
  • Broadway Babies – July 11 – 15, grades K – 2
  • Kid-Prov Jr – July 18 – 22, grades 3 – 6
  • So You Wanna Be A Star? – July 18 – 22, ages 13 – 18
  • Young Tony Award Showcase! – July 18 – 22, grades 3 – 6
  • "Baby Mine, You Are My Sunshine" – July 18 – 22, Ages 0 – 3 and caregiver
  • Kid-Prov Sr – July 25 – 29, grades 7 – 12
  • Act the Zoo! – August dates TBA, grades K – 3
  • Scene Study – Exploring "The W’s” – August dates TBA, grades 4 – 12

In addition to camps, the Fairmont State Academy for the Arts offers classes, private visual art, music, singing, acting and performance lessons year-round through the music, theater and visual arts preparatory programs.

"Performing and visual arts opportunities are still numerous at Fairmont State University," said College of Liberal Arts Dean, Christopher Kast. "The Academy for the Arts, Community Arts Program, Town & Gown Players, The Masquers student organization and Community Choir are beacons of outreach and creativity on our campus. Community outreach and integration are integral to Fairmont State’s longstanding mission, and the cultural and social development of the region. The community outreach through these programs impacts the lives of the people in our region. Whether it is attending a performance, taking a class through the Academy or participating in one of our annual productions, these programs are integral to our student body and the greater Fairmont community."
