Fast Track Jobs Program Sees Results

Apr 27, 2005

Fairmont State Community & Technical College is participating in a Fast Track Jobs program that provides residents of North Central West Virginia with access to quick, convenient job training for positions with companies that are currently hiring. Fast Track Jobs are training programs that can be completed in 90 days or less.

Joel Martin is a recent graduate of one of these programs, the NHLA Lumber Inspection School.

"When I signed up for the course, I made the best decision of my life," Martin said. "Before I started this class, I piled lumber for a small lumber mill for a year in western Pennsylvania. Now I am an inspector for one of the largest lumber companies in the world. My income almost doubled instantly. I landed myself a good job and made some really good friends because of the Inspection School at the West Virginia Wood Technology Center."

Orientation and information sessions on this and other Fast Track courses will be held at 1 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month at community and technical colleges across the state, including FSC&TC. These free information sessions will provide general information on Fast Track Jobs as well as other community and technical college programs.

In addition to the NHLA program, FSC&TC offers a Certified Procedural Coder (CPC) Program that leads to a professional certification.

The next information session will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at FSC&TC's Center for Workforce Education, 320 Adams St., Suite GO1, Fairmont. Representatives from Fairmont State will be on hand to answer questions and provide assistance to attendees.

"We are really pleased that graduates of these programs are well on their way toward productive and rewarding careers," said Paul Schreffler, FSC&TC Director of Economic Development and Workforce Education.
