Fairmont State students and employees honor historic ties to Woodlawn Cemetery through volunteerism

As a public institution, Fairmont State University is committed to serving the city of Fairmont and communities throughout North Central West Virginia. One way the university fulfills this mission is by preserving Fairmont’s culture and history through volunteerism. Woodlawn Cemetery, a historic landmark in Fairmont for nearly 150 years, relies mostly on volunteers to maintain its legacy. Professor of Healthcare Management, Dr. Raymond Alvarez, serves as Woodlawn’s President and frequently collaborates with university faculty, staff, and students on projects that enhance and support the cemetery.

Fairmont State University receives award for work supporting abused and neglected WV youth in foster care

The West Virginia Court Appointed Special Advocates (WV CASA), a non-profit organization that advocates for abused and neglected children in the state’s court system, held their annual Awards Gala on Oct. 5 at Stonewall Resort. Fairmont State University was honored with the Partner of the Year Award, recognizing Fairmont State’s work in support of WV’s children and families.

Fairmont State focuses on the community during MLK Celebration

Fairmont State University students, faculty and staff honored the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., with their annual Day of Service on Thursday, January 25. The University partnered with Tygart Valley United Way and coordinated a day of volunteer projects to honor the legacy and values of Dr. King.

Retired college professors establish fund for faculty and staff development

A couple who have enjoyed successful careers in higher education pledged $30,000 in support of faculty and staff development at Fairmont State University. The Drs. Errol L. and Patricia Reese Mini Grant Fund will provide support for the Falcon Mini-Grant Program at Fairmont State, providing an opportunity to apply for faculty and staff to apply for financial resources supporting special initiatives and projects.
