Fairmont State extends scholarship deadline and offers additional financial aid opportunities for new incoming students

With the recent FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) delays across the United States, Fairmont State University has identified a need to adjust the deadline for institutional scholarship applications and offer additional financial aid to new incoming students. The original scholarship application deadline of April 1 has been extended to August 1, 2024. This will allow those experiencing FAFSA delays more time to apply for the many scholarship opportunities offered at Fairmont State.

Fairmont State University Announces Datha and Gene Smith Fellows

Twenty students from West Virginia high schools have been selected to participate in this year’s Datha and Gene Smith Fellowship program. The exclusive fellowship program was developed to assist first-generation college students with their transition from high school to college. Unlike scholarships, fellowships provide long-term support, rather than one-time financial disbursement.

Fairmont State prepares for 155th Spring Commencement

Fairmont State University will host its 155th Spring Commencement on Saturday, May 11. There will be three separate ceremonies taking place throughout the day. The first will be at 10 a.m. for the College of Business & Aviation and the College of Education, Health & Human Performance. The second will be at 1 p.m. for the College of Liberal Arts and Regents Bachelor of Arts Program. The third and final ceremony will be at 4 p.m. for the College of Nursing and the College of Science & Technology.

West Virginia high schoolers selected as Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholars

Three West Virginia high school seniors have been selected as recipients of Fairmont State University’s premier academic scholarship. Grace Wells (Fairmont, W.VA), Lauren Bailey (Ripley, W.VA) and Madison Lagasse (Salem, W.VA) will have the entirety of their tuition and more paid for by the Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship. In addition to tuition, the McClain scholarship covers room and board and provides scholarship awardees with a $500 per semester allowance to purchase textbooks from the Fairmont State Bound for Success bookstore.

Fairmont State Board of Governors greenlights planning of new online program; Increased housing occupancy rates and continued financial stability also highlighted

During their February 15 meeting, Fairmont State University’s Board of Governors (BOG) approved planning for a new online criminal justice bachelor’s degree program, endorsed next steps to clarify policy review and creation, announced improved housing occupancy rates, and reported continued financial stability.

Fairmont State’s next Day of Giving takes place on February 29

Fairmont State University will host its fifth Falcon Day of Giving on Thursday, February 29 with a fundraising goal of $375,000. This 24-hour campaign aims to inspire Falcons to come together, show pride in their alma mater, and provide essential funding to support current and future students. Over 50 programs across campus, including academic units, athletic teams, student organizations, and student support initiatives will benefit from funds raised during this event.
