Community Can Participate in 'Fairmont Collects'

Apr 15, 2005

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts will sponsor the exhibition “Fairmont Collects†from June 1-30 in the Brooks Memorial Gallery of Wallman Hall.

Anyone in the Fairmont community who collects anything, from art to antiques to popular household items, and would be interested in exhibiting two to three pieces from their collection is asked to call Fine Arts Advocate and Curator Marian J. Hollinger at (304) 367-4300. Hollinger will provide participation forms to those interested.

"There will be room for 60 to 75 objects total for the exhibit, and our desire is to have a wide array of collectibles," Hollinger said. "I look forward to introducing collectors to one another during the course of the show."

The show will be open during the run of "Honk!," the first Town & Gown summer theatre presentation, and during the regular gallery hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. An opening reception will be held in conjunction with the opening week of "Honk!" sometime during June 10-12. The West Virginia Folklife Center at FSU will host a conference June 22-24, during which time attendees will be invited to view the exhibition. Admission to the exhibit will be free and open to the public.

For more information, call or e-mail Hollinger at (304) 367-4300 or mhollinger@fairmontstate.edu.
