Matt Swain, Fairmont State University Chief of Police and Emergency Management Director, was among the sixteenth class of Generation Next: 40 Under 40 leaders recognized by The State Journal on Thursday, June 17 during a celebration at the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center. Each year, Generation Next honors emerging leaders in various industries throughout the state for their achievements within their respective communities and the workforce.

Swain received a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Fairmont State in 2006, and has since served as a police officer in the Department of Public Safety. Swain was promoted to the Chief of Police position in 2018, following seven years of service in the Deputy Chief of Police role.

In addition, Christa Kwiatkowski, Fairmont State University Vice President for Administration and Fiscal Affairs and Chief Financial Officer, received recognition as part of the 2020 class of Generation Next: 40 Under 40 leaders.

Kwiatkowski is a Fairmont State alumna, receiving both her Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration from the University. Upon graduation, she has served in various roles at Fairmont State, ranging from Financial Reporting Manager, Assistant Director of Accounting and Interim Chief Financial Officer. She previously served as the Chief Financial Officer at the Fairmont State Foundation.

“Chief Swain and Christa are shining examples of the next up-and-coming leaders within our great state,” said Mirta M. Martin, Fairmont State University President. “I can think of no two individuals more deserving of this honor. We are fortunate to be serving alongside them.”
