Fairmont State University will host the U.S. premiere of A Day to Remember, a powerful documentary that explores the 1968 Farmington No. 9 Mine disaster and its enduring impact on safety regulations and practices around the world. Originally debuting in Brazil in Portuguese, the film will now be presented in English for its first screening in the U.S.

100 Years of Alpha Psi Omega: Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Paul Opp at Fairmont State University

Fairmont State University’s chapter of Alpha Psi Omega (APO), the collegiate dramatics honorary fraternity, celebrated the life and birthday of Dr. Paul Opp on Oct. 2. Opp was a Fairmont State College Professor of Speech and one of the original founders of APO. The current Alpha Psi Omega members planned this celebration of life on Dr. Paul’s birthday and also commemorated the 100-year anniversary of APO’s founding by Dr. Opp.

Rustic Mechanicals Return to Fairmont State Oct. 1 with Macbeth

Fairmont State University Invites Community to Fall Concert Featuring Multi-Platinum Band Echosmith

Fairmont State University is thrilled to announce that Echosmith, the multi-platinum alt-pop trio best known for their smash hit “Cool Kids,” will headline the Fall Concert on Friday, Sept. 19. The event begins at 7 p.m., with Echosmith premiering at 8 p.m. The concert will be held outdoors on the Falcon Center Quad, with a special VIP Meet & Greet prior to the show.

Fairmont State University Sets the Stage for a Thriving Year at Opening Session

Fairmont State University welcomed faculty and staff back from summer break with its annual Opening Session and Welcome Back Breakfast, celebrating a year of significant accomplishments and setting a course for the flourishing year ahead. Most notably, the University is experiencing prominent growth in both overall enrollment and student retention for the Fall 2025 semester. Specifically, undergraduate enrollment is expected to increase by 9%, retention rates are projected to rise by 8%, and there is an anticipated 18% increase in graduate studies enrollment—bringing approximately 300 additional students to campus altogether.
