Title III Student Peer Mentor Spotlight: Alex Campbell

Alex Campbell was born and raised in the Seattle area of Washington State. He was homeschooled by his parents, Robert and Grace Campbell, all the way through high school. In 2012, he transferred to Fairmont State University, where he is studying accounting with a minor in information systems. His anticipated graduation is May 2015. Alex loves the campus and the classroom sizes and feels quite at home in his new surroundings.

Alex enjoys playing basketball and has been the team captain of two intramural basketball teams. He is a hard-working student with a 4.0 GPA, and he teaches piano, helps students with classes, writes music and studies Chinese in his spare time. He is keeping his career options open and aspires to benefit many others as a great business leader.

Alex has always had a heart to reach out to students and promote active learning in the classroom. He jumped at the peer mentor position, eager to help guide greater numbers of students to academic success. He believes that the peer mentoring program is an outstanding way for students to perform better in their classes and also to improve their study and life management skills.

 

Each edition of The Impact: Title III Project Update will spotlight a student peer mentor. The Title III grant is developing and piloting a student peer mentoring program in the College of Science & Technology and the School of Business.
