W.Va. Symphony Orchestra Returns to FS
The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Grant Cooper, Conductor,
will perform its second concert of the academic year at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March
3, in Colebank Hall on the Fairmont State campus.
The concert titled "God Bless America" will feature vocalist Liz Nichols in a selection
of songs that form a patriotic salute to America. Nicholas is a West Virginia native
who "brought down the house" with her WVSO debut in February 2003.
Liz Nichols, one of West Virginia's premier talents was first recognized at the age
of 10 during a karaoke contest at Disney World. Nichols started performing professionally
in 1998. Since that time, the 18 year old has evolved into a seasoned performer with
more than 200 shows to her credit. She has earned accolades for her opening performances
for such music greats as Willie Nelson, Jo Dee Messina, Ronnie Milsap and Rebecca
Lynn Howard and has become a veteran performer of the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta.
With her expanded format that now includes, rock, blues, pop and dance music, Nichols
offers a variety of entertainment that appeals to all ages and genres. In February
2003, the WVSO showcased her versatile vocal talent by inviting her to perform two
shows for the POPS Concert Series.
