2005-2006 Fine Arts Season Offers Events

From Shakespeare to puppet theatre and from exhibits of local artists to the West Virginia Symphony, the Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts 2005-2006 season offers a variety of art, music and theatre events.

September

¢ The season opens with Jennifer Boggess painting exhibition, Displaced, on Sept. 8 from 7-9 p.m. in the Brooks Gallery of Wallman Hall. The artist will speak about her work at 7:30 p.m. The exhibition closes on Sept. 30. Admission is free and open to the public.

¢ Tiempo Libre, a Cuban timba band, will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 28 in Colebank Hall. This event is sponsored by the FS Student Government. For tickets, call the Box Office at (304) 367-4240.

¢ The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, under the musical direction of Grant Cooper, returns to campus on Sept. 30. Violinist Amelia Chan will be the evenings soloist with the orchestra. October

¢ October brings guest director Jeffrey Ingmans production of Arthur Millers All My Sons to the Walllman Hall Theatre on Oct. 13-15 and 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. For tickets, call the Box Office at (304) 367-4240.

¢ The Wood & Strings Puppet Theatre returns to Wallman Hall at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26. This years production is Ananse! Early in the Day, an African folk tale. For tickets, call the Box Office at (304) 367-4240.

¢ To accompany the events in the theatre, the first Intercollegiate Exhibition of works from regional colleges and universities will be on display in Brooks Gallery of Wallman Hall. The opening reception will be held from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 6. The exhibition will be on display through Oct. 28. Admission is free and open to the public.

November

¢ In November, the Art Department will sponsor a high school scholarship exhibition. The juried winner will receive a scholarship to the FS Art Department. This exhibition opens Nov. 10 and closes on Nov. 30. Admission is free and open to the public.

¢ The concluding theatrical event for the fall semester will be Seussical, the Musical. Directed by Dr. Francene Kirk, the musical encompasses a variety of Dr. Seuss characters and is based around the story of Horton Hears a Who. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 1-3 and 8-10 and at 2 p.m. on Dec. 4, all in Wallman Hall Theatre. For tickets, call the Box Office at (304) 367-4240.

January

¢ In January, the American Shakespeare Center brings its Atomic Fission Tour to FS, presenting during the week of Jan. 23-28, Richard III, Much Ado about Nothing and Return to the Forbidden Planet. For tickets and dates for specific plays, call the Box Office at (304) 367-4240.

February

¢ The West Virginia Symphony will make its second appearance at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2 in Colebank Hall, with A Night on Broadway. Tickets will be available through the Box Office at (304) 367-4240.

¢ During February, there will also be a photographic exhibition in the Brooks Gallery of Wallman Hall. The opening will be from 7-9 p.m. on Feb. 9. The exhibition will be on display through March 2. Admission is free and open to the public.

March

¢ A Renaissance or Restoration play will be performed March 2-4 and 9-11 at 7:30 p.m. and March 5 at 2 p.m. in the Wallman Hall Theatre. Guest director Jeffrey Ingman will make his second appearance of the academic year. Tickets will be available from the Box Office at (304) 367-4240.

¢ The Montana Repertory Theatre will perform The Trip to Bountiful on March 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theatre. The production is sponsored by Student Government and tickets will be on sale at the Box Office at (304) 367-4240.

¢ The Brooks Gallery in Wallman Hall will present an exhibition of the mixed media work of Claudia Giannini. Her work will help to celebrate Womens History Month. The opening will be held from 7-9 p.m. on March 7. The artist will speak about her work and her techniques. The exhibition will be on view through March 31. Admission is free and open to the public.

April-May

¢ The final theatrical presentation of the season will be a duo of modern plays, The Bald Soprano and Offending the Audience. Directed by Dr. John OConnor, the performances will be held in Room 314 of Wallman Hall, the Studio Theatre, at 7:30 p.m. on April 27-29 and May 2-4 and at 2 p.m. April 30.
