Winter Term

inter Term is a “mini-semester” during which credit and non-credit courses may be taken in a much shorter period of time. Students may only take one course during Winter Term. Terrific reasons to take Winter Term courses are listed further down this page, but here are the important details:

Winter Term 2022-23 Dates

Courses will be offered over a 5-week period from Monday, November 28, 2022, through Tuesday, January 3, 2023

Winter Term Schedule of Courses

Winter Term courses may be found by searching the course schedule and selecting “Winter Term 2022” under “Select a Term.”

Mode of Course Delivery

All courses will be delivered distance/online (no courses on campus).

Costs

  • For undergraduate courses, a 3-credit hour course will be charged at the rate of $1065.
  • For graduate courses, a 3-credit hour course will be charged at the rate of $1512.

Depending on the course, additional fees may be required.

Registrating for the Winter Term

Registration for the Winter Term will be open beginning October 10th, 2022. Students may register for one class during Winter Term.

Current students should meet with their advisor before choosing a Winter Term course. Your registration PIN will be the same as it is for the Spring 2023 Term.

If you’re a new student, you will need to meet (virtually) with your advisor to obtain your registration PIN. If you don’t know who your advisor is, follow the registration instructions in this PDF.

To add a class with a known CRN

  1. Go to my.fairmontstate.edu
  2. Log in with your username and password
  3. Select 'Student Registration Self-Service' under the 'Student Links' Card
  4. Select ‘Register for Classes’
  5. Select the ‘Winter Term 2022’ Term
  6. Enter the appropriate Alternate PIN as given by the advisor
  7. Click ‘Enter CRN’ tab and enter the CRN
  8. Click ‘Add to Summary’

**Note: You must click “Submit” at the bottom of the “Summary” window to register for the course. If there was an error, it will be listed at the top-right of the page. For resolutions to these errors, please see ‘Potential Registration Restrictions’ listed in the Registration Guide linked above.

How to Search for Course

To find Winter Term course offerings:

  1. Navigate to the Course Schedule page.
  2. Select ‘Winter Term 2022’
  3. Select the subject you would like to search
    • SEARCH TIP! To search for multiple subjects at once by holding the “ctrl” or "command" key and selecting all of the subjects you would like.
  4. Click “Class Search” to return results.

6 Reasons to Take a Winter Term Course

  1. Do-overs allowed. Winter courses let you retake a course that challenged you the first time around.
  2. Personal attention. Winter courses class sizes are often smaller, so you get more one-on-one time with the instructor.
  3. Ease the load. Taking a class over Winter Term allows you to ease up on Fall or Spring term course loads. If you know you’re going to have a heavy semester, or if you’re involved in a Fall or Spring sport, you can take advantage of Winter Term to lighten the load.
  4. Graduate sooner. If you plan ahead, taking Winter Term courses can trim your path to graduation, saving you time.
  5. Interesting courses. Winter Term courses are often unique like “Music in Western Civilization to 1750” or “Exploring American History through Film.”
  6. Internships. Winter Term is the perfect time to participate in an internship. Get hands-on experience in your field and build your network.
