5. Apply for Scholarships
PRIORITY DEADLINE, March 1
Scholarships are free money awarded to students for merit, the demonstration of financial
need, or a combination of both. Scholarships are not loans, and they do not need to
be repaid. Some are one-time awards, while others may be renewed throughout a student’s
college career.
Fairmont State University offers dozens of scholarships. Some scholarships are based
solely on talent, academic achievement, leadership, and/or other contributions without
reference to financial need. Others are earmarked for those who present strong academic
and leadership potential and have demonstrated financial need. Among the many scholarships
we offer are:
Presidential Scholarship
The Presidential Scholarship is Fairmont State’s premier academic scholarship. This
competitive scholarship includes tuition and fees, room and board, and a book stipend.
Must reside in the state of West Virginia.
Opportunity Scholarship
The Opportunity Scholarship offers West Virginia students additional funding to assist
with tuition and fees only. These renewable scholarships are available in $500, $1,500,
$2,000, and $2,500 amounts, depending on GPA and test scores.
Metro Rate & Metro Scholarship
College is a big investment. That’s why we’ve created our Metro Rate Scholarship for
residents of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Kentucky.
With this scholarship, you might pay a tuition that is even lower than the in-state
tuition in your home state. Do you also qualify for the Metro Scholarship? Contact
us to find out!
Out of State Scholarship
The Out-of-State Scholarship rewards students who live outside of West Virginia for
the hard work they have completed in high school. These renewable scholarships are
available in $2,000, $4,000, and $6,000 amounts, depending on GPA and test scores.
