English Education Impact

English Education

The English Education major at Fairmont State University is a teaching specialization for students who want to teach English at the high school and middle school level (5-12)

Because the English Education program is affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Education, Health and Human Performance, English Education majors have two advisors to help them successfully navigate the curriculum.

Fairmont State English Education students focus on:

  • Language
  • Grammar
  • Writing
  • Literature

While earning their degree, English Education majors may train to be peer tutors for students at Fairmont State.

Graduates earn their teaching licenses through the PRAXIS II exam in the content area as well as the general PLT exam.

Career Opportunities

While the main purpose of the English Education major is to prepare students to teach, those who choose the major can seek opportunities in a number of areas.

  • Teacher
  • Textbook rep for publishing companies
  • Teacher of English in Japan and other countries
  • Graduate student in English, education, and other fields
  • Lawyer
  • Writer
