Student Government to Honor Veterans

Oct 31, 2005

Fairmont State's Student Government is sponsoring a Veterans Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in Gym 1 of the Falcon Center.

Speakers for the event will include FSU President Daniel J. Bradley and FSC&TC President Blair Montgomery. Student Kasha Brown will sing the "National Anthem," and the FS Marching Band will provide music.

During the ceremony, four FS students who are also U.S. Marines who have recently returned from Iraq will be honored. The three students are SGT. Oscar Aguilera, LCPL. Nathan Carpenter, LCPL. James Riffle and LCPL. Jordan Ashcraft.

"The Fairmont State campus and the Fairmont community need a time and a place to say thank you to those who are serving their country," said Student Government Director of Public Relations Sandra Ramirez-Clavijo, a junior at FS and a four-year U.S. Army veteran.

"We want to honor our veterans, especially our fellow students, who have chosen to temporarily pause their civilian lives for service to their country."
