Stage Band to Perform Fall Concert

The Fairmont State Stage Band, under the direction of Dr. Stephen Johnson, will perform its annual Fall Concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, in the Turley Center Ballroom.

Admission to the concert is free and open to the public. Dancing is welcome and encouraged.

The Fairmont State Stage Band consists of saxophonists Gavin Miller, Matt Wilson, Gene Mills, Pat Miller and Tiffany Brown; trombonists Chris Kolar, Ryan Boyd and Kenneth Milnes; trumpet players Levon Pritt and Josh Sherman; guitarist Dustin Todd; drummer Brian Bailey; pianist John Ross Farley; and bass player Travis Toothman.

The November performance will include a variety of musical styles. Among the titles in the program are the Ricky Martin salsa hit 'Living La Vida Loca;" an arrangement of Black Sabbath's heavy metal anthem, "Iron Man;" the bluesy "Cruella De Vil" from Walt Disney's "101 Dalmatians;" a contemporary baritone saxophone feature, "Bari Bari Good;" and "Blues for Elise," a modern jazz arrangement of Beethoven's famous piano piece. Two traditional Cuban Latin numbers ' Tito Puente's "Mas Bajo" and Johnny Pacheco's "Ponte Duro" will also be featured. In the spirit of the holidays, the concert will close with a big band arrangement of Jay Livingston and Ray Evans's "Silver Bells" from the Paramount Picture "The Lemon Drop Kid."
