School of Business Receives Accreditation

Aug 15, 2005

The Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) has announced that Fairmont State University was awarded initial accreditation for the School of Business.

The announcement was made at the ACBSP Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.

"The accreditation of FSU's School of Business affirms to the world the quality that has always been present," said Dr. Daniel J. Bradley, FSU President. "It also gives us a professional review on a regular basis to help in our continuing efforts to improve."

For institutions that achieve initial accreditation for their business schools and programs, the attainment certifies that the teaching and learning processes within the institution meet the rigorous educational standards established by the SCBSP. The ratification of initial accreditation by ACBSP covers a 10-year period during with time FSU must continually reaffirm its quality through periodic reports.

"Fairmont State University has shown its commitment to teaching excellence by participating in the accreditation process, achieving accreditation and then continuing the process of quality improvement," said Douglas G. Viehland, Executive Director of the ACBSP. "This initial accreditation is evidence of FSU's commitment to quality business programs."

ACBSP's mission is to establish, promote and recognize educational practices that contribute to the continuous quality improvement of business education programs, teaching of business courses and student learning outcomes in colleges and universities throughout the U.S. and abroad. ACBSP was established in 1988 and is the only business accrediting organization for both two- and four-year institutions. ACBSP has 394 member institutions.
