Professor Participates in 'Inside Washington'

For the second straight year, Fairmont State journalism professor Kevin Z. Smith has been selected to serve as a faculty leader at The Washington Center's two-week politics and media program, "Inside Washington."

Smith is one of 15 faculty members chosen nationwide to work the program in January 2006. He served in the program last year and in 2000.

Smith will supervise and mentor nearly 20 college media students from across the county during the two weeks of the program. The first week addresses Congress and public policy, the second week explores politics and the media.

Smith is an Assistant Professor of Journalism at Fairmont State and is Director of Student Publications. He holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from West Virginia University and a master's degree in mass communications from Miami University (Ohio). He worked more than 20 years in newspapers in West Virginia and Ohio, including in Fairmont, Morgantown, Parkersburg, Grafton and Cincinnati. Smith is a former journalism instructor at WVU and Miami University.
