Fairmont State University Kicks off its United Way campaign Goal of $25,000

Sep 20, 2022

Fairmont State University is proud to once again partner with the Tygart Valley United Way for its 2022 campaign and has set a goal of $25,000.

This year’s community campaign theme, “It Starts With You,” will be echoed on campus as faculty, staff and students are encouraged to find a way that they can give back to the community. The campaign will run September 19 through November 11.

“The Tygart Valley United Way plays a vital role in creating positive change within our communities,” said Fairmont State University Interim President, Dianna Phillips. “Fairmont State University believes in working together to achieve results and bring about community change. United Way is doing that every day in our community.”

All contributions for Fairmont State’s United Way campaign stay local, as the money is donated to 32 different organizations in Marion, Randolph, Taylor, Barbour and Tucker counties that assist people with healthcare, childcare, youth mentoring, senior programs, mental health programs, disaster response initiatives and healthy lifestyle initiatives, among others. These agencies, however, do not have the resources for large fundraising campaigns and rely on Fairmont State’s United Way campaign each year for additional funding.

Employees interested in contributing should complete their pledge form and return it to their department Team Captain. Employees can also visit http://www.fairmontstate.edu/unitedway for more information.

“Just like they’re known for doing across our region, Fairmont State University continues to step up for our community,” said Tygart Valley United Way CEO, Brett White. “The dollars raised through this campaign are really changing lives. It is about helping our local neighbors, and no one does that better than Fairmont State.”

Fairmont State University’s donations help provide:

·     46 programs at 32 health and human service agencies

·     59,904 meals to individuals in need

·     6,813 nights of shelter for families affected by domestic violence

·     5,998 people received emergency financial assistance during a crisis

·     2,735 young people with educational learning opportunities

Since 2010, the University has given more than $315,000 to the United Way. Fairmont State University is the second largest contributor to the local United Way.

“Fairmont State University thrives when our community thrives. Working together, we can make the future even brighter for all our neighbors,” Phillips added.
