FSUCO to Perform Nov. 13 Concert

The Fairmont State University Community Orchestra will perform its first concert of the year on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 3 p.m. in the Turley Center Ballroom.

Professor Emeritus John Ashton will conduct the orchestra in Emil Reznicek's "Donna Diana Overture," W.A. Mozart's Symphony in G minor, No. 40 KV 550, and P.I. Tschaikowsky's Suite No. 1 in D, Op. 43, a seldom-performed work, originally written for piano four hands and later orchestrated.

Ashton's credits include membership in the U.S. Navy Academy Band, the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, the Virginia Symphony, the Radio Telefis Eireann Symphony of Dublin, Ireland, and the New Orleans Philharmonic, the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Ballet and Opera Theatre Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony as extra trumpet. His works are in the collections of the Carnegie Music Library in Pittsburgh, the Fleischer Collection of Orchestral Music, a part of the Free Library of Philadelphia, and in the Library of Congress. His works are published by Seesaw Music, New York.

The orchestra, celebrating its 35th season this year, regularly presents student soloists selected by audition, as well as regional and national soloists. Receptions sponsored by the Friends of the Symphony and the Fine Arts Guild have become a feature of recent concerts, allowing audience members to meet the orchestra members and solosists. Admission to the performance is free and open to the public.
