Did you grow up Slovenian in West Virginia? Share your story with historian and writer Joe Valencic. Joe is preparing a presentation on the rich heritage and contributions of Slovenians across West Virginia as part of the Diversity in Appalachia Lecture Series presented by the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center on the campus of Fairmont State University on Thursday, September 13, 7:00 p.m.

Tell Joe about how your Slovenian kinfolk came to the Mountain State and dealt with the challenges of working and building lives for their families. How do you maintain your Slovenian identity today? What Slovenian songs, food and traditions mean the most to you?

Send Joe an e-mail by Monday, September 10, with your reminiscences. He may include your anecdotes in his presentation. Reach him at javalencic@yahoo.com

Valencic’s presentation is sponsored by the West Virginia Humanities Council a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Fairmont State University Foundation.
