Folklife Center to host memorial storytelling in honor of D. Jane Gilchrist

The West Virginia Storytelling Guild and the Frank and Jane Gabor WV Folklife will honor the life of D. Jane Gilchrist with a memorial storytelling concert featuring tellers from the West Virginia Storytelling Guild on Saturday, September 7 at 2 p.m. at the Folklife Center.

Jane Gilchrist was a graduate of Fairmont State University with a B.A. emphasis in folklore studies and a master’s degree in education. Jane worked at the Folklife Center during her time at Fairmont State University and was particularly active in the Center’s library. Upon graduation, Jane worked for AmeriCorps at Arthurdale Heritage in Arthurdale and Heritage Farm Museum and Village in Huntington. She traveled the state teaching weaving and was the owner of Loomyladi Handwoven Studio. Jane passed away after a brief illness on March 8, 2019.

The storytelling concert will feature Bill Hairston, Ilene Evans, Mikalene Zuckett, Katie and Otto Ross, Jason Burns, June Riffle, and Jo Ann Dadisman. Dr. Judy Byers will emcee the event. A special presentation and a reception hosted by the West Virginia Storytelling Guild will follow the concert.
