Fairmont State welcomes two newly appointed members to the Board of Governors

Jul 23, 2019

Governor Jim Justice has appointed two new members to the Fairmont State University Board of Governors—Wendy Glover Adkins and David Goldberg. Additionally, current Board member, Jay Puccio, was reappointed.

“Fairmont State University is blessed to have Wendy Glover Adkins and David Goldberg join its Board of Governors,” President Mirta M. Martin said, “Both have achieved excellence in their fields and demonstrated a commitment to community. I’m thrilled to welcome them to the Falcon Family.”

Adkins is a member of Jackson Kelly PLLC, practicing out of the firm’s Morgantown office. Her law practice focuses primarily on labor and employment consultation and litigation, general litigation, education, and property.

Adkins has experience representing members of limited liability companies in claims of breach of fiduciary duties; representing higher education clients against challenges to procurement and FOIA procedures and process, student discipline and academic misconduct issues as well as employee grievances; representing public and private employers against whistleblower, discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, FMLA, wage and hour, defamation, and invasion of privacy claims; and representing various businesses in suits against employees and independent contractors concerning breach of exclusivity or non-compete agreements.

Adkins has been named a West Virginia Super Lawyers® Rising Star for General Litigation since 2012.  She is a summa cum laude graduate of West Virginia University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree and graduated from the West Virginia University College of Law with her Juris Doctor.

A native of Marion County, she graduated from North Marion High School in 1996. Ms. Adkins has a very personal connection to Fairmont State University—at four years old, she attended graduation and watched her mother receive an associate degree from Fairmont State.

David Goldberg serves as Mon Health System’s President and Chief Executive Officer. He has more than 17 years of senior healthcare leadership experience. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President with Highmark Health’s Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and former interim-President of Highmark Home and Community Services (HMHCS) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Goldberg’s extensive healthcare administrative background includes serving as President of two hospitals and Service Line Executive for cardiovascular and behavioral health services at Tenet Health’s Baptist Health System in San Antonio, Texas. He has also served in various senior roles ending as System Pediatric Vice President and Administrator with Inova Health System at Inova Children’s Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia.

Goldberg earned his Master’s degree in health systems management from George Mason University and a Bachelor’s degree in political science from West Virginia University. A recipient of several professional awards, he has remained active in healthcare, professionally and in community activities throughout his career.

Adkins will replace William Holmes, who resigned earlier this year. Her term will expire on June 30, 2020. Goldberg will succeed Frank Washenitz. Goldberg and Puccio’s terms will expire June 30, 2023.
