Dr. Brianne Little Wins First Prize in Paris and London Grand Prize Virtuoso Competitions

The Fairmont State University Department of Music is excited to announce assistant professor of flute at Fairmont State, Dr. Brianne Little, has won first prize in both the Paris and London Grand Prize Virtuoso Competitions. Winning this prestigious award has provided Dr. Little the opportunity to perform at the Amphithéâtre, Philharmonie (in Paris) on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 and at the Elgar Room, Royal Albert Hall (in London) on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. 

Dr. Little is the Assistant Professor of Flute at Fairmont State in Fairmont, West Virginia where she teaches applied flute, conducts the Fairmont State Flute Ensemble, and recruits music majors and minors for the Department of Music. She also teaches flute with Fairmont State’s Academy for the Arts Program. Prior to her appointment at Fairmont State, Dr. Little was adjunct instructor of Flute at Southern Virginia University and adjunct assistant Professor of Music at Piedmont Virginia Community College where she taught music theory, basic musicianship, music appreciation, and applied flute lessons. Dr. Little is a First Prize winner of the "Vienna Grand Prize Virtuoso" International Competition and the "Golden Classic Music Awards" International Competition, which invited Dr. Little to perform her solo debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in March 2018. As of January 2019, Dr. Little joined the Board of the Flute Society of Washington as the Secretary. This spring, Dr. Little will be performing the solo flute works of composer, and West Virginia native, Katherine Hoover at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention in Reston, VA in February and the Music by Women Festival in Columbus, MS in March.                                                                                                        

The International Music Competition "Grand Prize Virtuoso" is open to all nationalities and ages in strings, piano, wind, vocal and chamber music discipline. As part of the “Grand Prize Virtuoso”, the selected group of winners have received an invitation to debut in prominent areas in Europe. “Fairmont State's Department of Music has a tradition of international winners in flute competitions, and we're enormously proud of it,” said Dr. Anne Patterson, Dean of the School of Fine Arts at Fairmont State.
