Family Weekend Events

Sep 02, 2005

Dads of Fairmont State freshmen who may be looking to test their prowess on the basketball court against Fairmont State University President Dan Bradley and Fairmont State Community & Technical College President Blair Montgomery will have their chance during Fairmont State's Family Weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10.

A Basketball Shootout free throw contest, Dads vs. the FS presidents, will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11:30 a.m. in the Student Center featuring free prizes.

The annual Family Weekend is mainly for FS freshmen and their families, but all students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend. The event kicks off Friday, Sept. 9, from 7-9 p.m. in the Student Center with the movie, "Meet the Flockers," and a buffet meal featuring wings and pizza.

Families will have the opportunity to watch the shootout and to use all of the recreational facilities in the Student Center from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, and all campus buildings will be open for self-guided tours from 1-6 p.m. Jim Miller, owner of the Photographic Emporium in Rehoboth Beach, Del., will take an old-time portrait of families in Old West, Victorian or Civil War garb from noon-6 p.m.

Face painting, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; an art exhibit featuring the work of FS art professor Jennifer Boggess from 2-3 p.m.; and a cookout with live music at Duvall-Rosier Field at 4 p.m. are also in store for parents that day, followed by the 6 p.m. football game pitting the Fighting Falcons against Concord University.

A $15 fee covers the cost of all of the meals and activities. Fairmont State students and children under 12 will be admitted for free. Those planning to attend the Family Weekend should contact Sue Conrad at (304) 367-4643 by Tuesday, Sept. 6.
