Fairmont State University to Host Spirit Week

Mar 11, 2021

Fairmont State University will host its first annual Spirit Week from March 15 – 19. The celebration, which is being held in lieu of a traditional Homecoming event, will include social media challenges, a community service project and wellness initiatives.

“The Spirit Week initiative is a way to boost campus morale and bring the Falcon Family together,” said Evan Fossen, Assistant Director of Student Life. “It gives us a chance to celebrate our campus community which has shown tremendous strength and resilience this past year. We hope that this may also be the start of a new tradition where we can celebrate the #FalconSpirit together every spring.”

Service projects, including a littler cleanup on Locust Avenue and a personal hygiene drive, are open to the entire campus community. Students, staff and alumni are encouraged to participate in the social media challenges, such as Throwback Thursday and Falcon Friday, by tagging @FairmontStateSA and using #FalconSpirit on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

“As winter recedes and spring beckons, the temperature, as well as feelings of hope and optimism, are warming up,” said Mirta M. Martin, Fairmont State University President. “Spirit Week is the perfect antidote to any winter blues we might have. It’s a week-long celebration of the bonds that hold the Falcon Family together, and it’s an opportunity for each of us to give back to the local community to whom we owe so much.”

In addition, various student organizations nominated candidates to be selected as Falcon Royalty and the winners will be announced on Friday, March 19.
