Debate Team Wins Honors in Tournament

The Fairmont State Intercollegiate Debate Team received honors from the Study Break Forensics tournament hosted by Bridgewater College and Lord Fairfax Community College on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3 and 4.

Maria Mutafis of Clarksburg, an English education and oral communication major, competed in Lincoln Douglas policy debate. Chris Sharps of Boone County, an oral communication and journalism major, placed first in Lincoln Douglas policy debate. Jon Fox of Fairmont, a dual major in psychology and speech communication, placed second in debate. Brett Harper of Charleston placed fourth in Lincoln Douglas policy debate. The tournament included 14 teams from Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia.

The tournament marked the conclusion of the fall semester during which the team participated in tournaments at Bowling Green State University, West Chester University, Bloomsburg State University and Kellogg Community College.
