Jan Kiger, Fairmont State University Health and Human Performance Department Chair, was recently named the 2020 Recreation and Leisure Leadership Award recipient by the Society of Health and Physical Education for West Virginia (SHAPEWV). SHAPEWV is a professional education association in which members work collaboratively for the betterment of the organization, local institutions of learning and the State of West Virginia to provide a healthier place to play, learn, work, grow and live.

Fairmont State Hosts Prospective Students for Annual SOAR Awards Event

More than 100 prospective students filled Fairmont State University’s Falcon Center last Friday for the opportunity to earn a $500 SOAR Award scholarship to offset their educational costs.

“We loved seeing so many future Falcons on campus and we felt their excitement for the upcoming school year,” said Assistant Vice President of Enrollment and Student Life, Alicia Kalka.

David and Barbara Riggleman, both Fairmont State alumni, chose to support the College of Education, Health and Human Performance through the David and Barbara Riggleman Endowed Scholarship because of the impact that educators had on their lives.

Fairmont State Continues SOAR Award Events to Provide Student Scholarships

Fairmont State University will continue its annual SOAR Award events to provide first-time freshmen admitted to the University a $500 annually renewable scholarship for up to four years. The SOAR Award opportunities were established in 2018 to assist students offset their educational costs as an institutional commitment to student achievement and success.

Fairmont State Provides Opportunities for Student Success During Winter Term

Fairmont State University will begin Winter Term courses on Monday, November 29. Winter Term is a “mini-semester” during which credit and non-credit courses may be taken in a shorter period of time.

The optional Winter Term provides current and transient students a chance to earn credit-hours online over the course of a five-week period, through Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Students may enroll in one course during Winter Term or choose to earn internship or field work experience. 

Fairmont State University Participates in College Application Week

College for West Virginia, an online resource for high school students across the state, has designated November 1 - 5 as College Application Week. Hosted annually, the campaign seeks to increase the Higher Education Policy Commission’s efforts to grow the number of students choosing to pursue postsecondary education.
